Cheras Flat Woo Pin Fish Head Noodle

Anyone who is a big fan of fish-oriented dishes, would have listed fish head noodle as one of the must haves in one’s gastronomic checklist. Fish head noodle is a famous Chinese hawker dish in Malaysia and Singapore. This dish comes with a great combination of delicious milky broth from evaporated milk, tomatoes, pickled mustard greens, sour plums, slice ginger, vermicelli and of course, not forgetting the main ingredient which is the fish head. However, nowadays, you can choose to have your noodle served with either fish head or fish paste (fried or non-fried). Besides, you can also opt to have clear soup, without the evaporated milk being added.

I have tried several versions of fish head noodle soup, but none of them tastes as good as the one from the Cheras Flat Woo Pin Fish Head Noodles. It is so famous that it has many branches throughout the Klang Valley. I used to visit their main branch in Cheras, however the long distance is just not ideal for me. When I found out that they recently opened a branch in Sri Petaling, I was overjoyed and quickly informed my hubby that we should pay this branch a visit as soon as possible.

I have tasted both the fried and non-fried version of the Bonito Fish, and trust me, both taste absolutely fresh and delicious. However, the downside of it is that you may need some skills in separating the bones from the fish. It has so many tiny bones in it, that I always end up finishing the noodle last despite me being the first to indulge in it. Hubby will always go for the fish paste (without bones) noodle, which is easier to eat.

In addition to that, you are given the choice to choose the type of noodle you would prefer, whether it be mee hon (rice vermicelli) or yee mee (hubby’s favourite).

Fish Paste Yee Mee: RM10.50; Presentation: 7.5/10; Taste: 9/10
Fried Fish Paste Mee Hon (Rice Vermicelli): RM10.50; Presentation: 7.5/10; Taste: 9/10

Each bowl of noodle will be served with at least 5 huge pieces of fish paste and I can assure you that it is delicious when eaten with the milky broth, topped with the fresh scallions, cilantro and fried onions. As far as I could recall, the price of a bowl of noodle 6 years ago was only RM6 but things had become more expensive since then. Well, I would say RM10.50 is still pretty reasonable, especially when you are dining in a comfortable, air-conditioned environment as compared to the hot and humid environment in the main branch. We will soon be trying out the other items on the menu as well!
